Ceol Mor

Dear Folks

Just as a short introductory note, my name is Iain MacCrimmon.  My mother Mairi MacCrimmon - (nee Chisholm)is a native 'Lewisoch' from Gravir, and left the Island as a 'War Bride' in 1946.  My mother left Lewis and went to make her life out in Canada and is still teaching the Gaelic to this day, in her 88th year!  My family have been living in Scotland for the past 15 years in Monifieth, Angus.  A few years ago, our son (Calum MacCrimmon) along with Darren MacLean were the winners of "Seo Seinn."  Very special as Darren's grandmother was at my mothers wedding way back then, and Calum's grandmother (the Bride) was from Lewis!

I have recently finished a Ceol Mor that I feel is very melodic (user friendly as it were) and thought that it would be a challenge for your Choir to sing this in possibly the Cainnteareachd style.  A bit of a challenge.  This would be a 'first' I think because nobody has ever attempted this before, to my knowledge anyway!

I am in the direct line of the MacCrimmons of Skye and there has not been a piobaireachd written by our family for almost 200 years!  I have had compositions of mine recorded since the 1970's, as many as 60 recordings of my tunes done by some of the finest players and bands in the piping world, some of them winning the World Championships with my tunes.

"This is a very important piece of music to me and has a great deal to do with my Island heritage, the heart and soul that my music comes from".

I would be very pleased to speak to someone from your choir should you have any interest in this piece of music.  If it is to come from anywhere, it should be Lewis.

Yours very sincerely,

Iain MacCrimmon
